Hello england

Hello england

IMG_432154b.jpgWe are currently mid channel, France is receding behind us, whilst the
white cliffs of Dover are looming ever larger.
Alfie has had fish and chips for lunch and is really looking forward
to seeing poppy and mummy.

Going home

Going home

After all the excitement of the race we all decided to have an earlyIMG_425213b.jpg
night, however before this we thought we should do some top trumps as
we had not really had time. We managed to get a few and these will be
posted along with more photos when I get time. So after an early start we
have made great time and are currently waiting at the ferry port then
back to blighty, hurrah.

Hurrah

Hurrah

IMG_427645b.jpgWhat a result well done Aston, we all flooded onto the track, lots ofIMG_42959b.jpg
clapping, lots of cheering and of course the national anthem. We are
now having a well earned drink then back to the campsite.

I thought I would add to this post as on the way back Alfie was allowed through the barriers to stand next to one of the Audi R10s which won the overall race (Le Mans is a complex affair of categories and sub categories).

So near

So near

We are positioned on the pit straight opposite the Aston martin
garage, alfie is on my shoulders madly waving two Aston martin flags
(we have convinced him that supporting corvette is hardly the british
thing to do).

Rain

Rain

IMG_426412b.jpgOh dear we have rain, of course that makes for more drama on track.
The good news is that we have an Aston leading the gt1 class hurrah.
Another good nights sleep for alfie which is astounding although he
has just told me that he wants chips for breakfast, I think not!! Ham
and eggs for us.

Arnage

Arnage

For me the whole le mans ‘thing’ can be understood by a trip to the
arnage corner at night, the cars thunder through Indianapolis,
accelerate hard along a short straight before slamming on the anchors
for the tight arnage corner. Brake discs glow, exhausts spitting blue
and yellow flame as the in burnt fuel ignites on overrun and then the
roar as the driver tries to get the power on as quickly as possible.
It is an amazing thing and as we sat in our garden chairs scoffing hot
frites I was alarmed to discover that alfie was supporting corvette
and not Aston, pah.
As it was getting late we did not stay long however it took an age to
get back not helped by tom tom constantly trying to route us onto the
track!!
Another excellent car day, nice cobras, d-type and a gumpert apollo
and if you want to know about that I suggest you ask alfie, but not
just now as he is asleep.

So far so good

So far so good

IMG_423485b.jpgAfter watching the start we have come up to the Dunlop esses where we
are perched on a bank watching the action. The good news is that an
Aston is leading its class.

Not long now

Not long now

IMG_423086b.jpgWell we are stationed on the pit straight for the start, only 2 and a
half hours to go. Lots of parades of classic and other interesting
stuff and we have just been on a huge ferris wheel.IMG_423350b.jpg

Morning has broken

Morning has broken

I am still in my sleeping bag, having just been awoken by the sound of
engines reving and cars being driven at high speed.I suspect this is
the group c warm up, which is excellent. Alfie is still asleep beside
me and has had another good nights sleep. I’m might get up, risk the
showers them get the coffee on.

The pits

The pits

IMG_422023b.jpgWere great, we sat in the grandstand. The pitlane was open so we were
able get a good look at the cars in final prep. We then came back a
different way to spy where we would watch the start of the race. Alfie
is currently eating a tuna and salad earnie then we might have another
game of boules or top trumps.
