What’s it all about alfie?

This is our little le mans blog. I promised Alfie that when he was five I would take him to le mans for the 24hr race. We did it, with our friend Ian it was brilliant so we went again, and again and again! Well Alfie is now 11 and we’ll be leaving in a few days for his 5th visit. Ferry and camping are booked, camping gear found, time off booked. All we need to do is polish the car, pack our bags and we’ll be off……..

What is Le Mans…?

Basically it is a 24 hour endurance motor race, held on a circuit made up of proper track and public roads (don’t worry they close them for the race). It has been held annually since 1923 (with the odd exception for WWII).

The event is much more than a race, it is a gathering of car and motorsport enthusiasts from all over the world (but a lot of them are British).

There are three of us in our little group, Alfie, Rob and myself, we’ll be meeting various people we know from dubious online motoring forums on the way and at the site.

We’ll be leaving home at about 5:15am on the 12th, catching a tunnel train at about 7:40 getting in at about 9:10am we will then travel, (sticking to the strict French speedlimits) to see Blipfriend then taking a slightly different route t Le Mans via some interesting toll roads and villages with a short stop for some frites.

This is our fourth year on this site, really well organised, secure and close the circuit, it also has has exciting things like toilets, proper food, security and so will hopefully prove to be a good choice again.
